Lisa Winston has been covering the Minors like a cuddly security blanket (think Linus) for … wow, almost 20 years.

She really, really, REALLY loves the Minors.

Lisa joined the MiLB/MLB.com staff at the beginning of the 2006 season after having served as Minor League writer/editor at USA Today Baseball Weekly (she still has trouble calling it Sports Weekly) for 14 years.

Prior to that she got her Minor League size 3 feet wet as the beat writer for the Class A Prince William Cannons (then the Yankees, now the Potomac Nationals) for three years. Her debut season there marked the last time the club has won the Carolina League championship (1989).

She lives in suburban Maryland (conveniently located somewhere between the Baltimore Orioles and Washington Nationals and within easy driving distance of four Minor League circuits) with her husband, Wayne, a jazz musician who specializes in Brazilian jazz (kind of like your GP doctor who can also do open-heart surgery if needed) and daughter Dana, an amazing (unbiased of course) singer-songwriter who will be heading to Berklee College of Music in the fall. Needless to say she will be blogging about them as well. She’ll find some kind of avatar or graphic to warn readers that she’s about to veer off into “Lisahood” so they can skip over it if necessary. (Maybe a smiley baseball face sticking a fork in its eye?)

She is also a member of the Jewish Sports Hall of Fame (yes, yes, she didn’t know it existed either until she was inducted). Her grandmother is kvelling in her grave.

Oh, and this is the last time Lisa will refer to herself in third person.
